I was spurred to take some pics of my home office setup after I realized how much I enjoyed drooling over the mobile office setups of Aaron Tersteeg, Steve Paine and Layne Heiny, I had to share some of my pics. Of course, the closest thing I have to UMPC is a smart phone (Treo 700w) and an Audiovox 6700, but I do have a lot of hardware, so have fun ogling.
My desk

I am at this desk from early morning to late at night. You can see the dual XBox 360s on the other side of the room, behind my monitor. My husband’s desk is next to the 360s. My son is playing the Wii next to my monitor. You can even see my treadmill next to the Wii. The bowflex is folded up next to the treadmill. I actually do use them.
The Wii area

I have a small Wii setup next to my desk and here’s my son, Jacob, playing a Wii sports game. He’s 4. My baby, Ruby, almost 2, likes boxing, but clearly she’s absolutely horrible at it! My 6 year old daughter, Grace, and 9 year old daughter, Cady, are doing well in Zelda, but the 6 year old just really walks around, and doesn’t do any of the quest.
Here’s the 360 setup closer

The monitor on the floor runs the one on the left. You can see our haphazard networking setup over the top of the TV.
Next, panning left, is my husband’s desk

It’s a horrible mess. But, since he doesn’t really work much from home it’s more of a papers’ repository than an actual working area.
The pool table

My office was once the den/rec room, so I can now brag I have a pool table in my office. We do play it once a week or so. I’m pretty good, but my husband is a shark. Doh! Now I guess he won’t be taking any of your money, huh?
Here’s the recording area.

We have alot of fun here. Lots of neighborhood budding musicians hang out with us to use us for our setup. LOL
And when I’m not working

Now I don’t feel so bad about the mess that my office has become.
I don’t know that I’m brave enough to post pictures of it though….

Argh, are you saying my office is messy? LOL I know it is. But my desk is clean, at least. Hubby was annoyed that I posted a pic of his Ha ha
I told him if he cleaned it I’d replace the pick. Fat chance though. He’s just too busy to mess with it.

Robyn, Thanks for this post … it really points up something a number of bloggers have posted about recently … building a personality so your blog isn’t just a lot of impersonal words of ‘wisdom’.
I need to post mine … it’s nearly as disorganized but not quite, only because I don’t have any gaming infrastructure.
But one serious observation is the location, specifically the height of your keyboard on your main ‘blog central” desk. I’m a pretty poor typist myself but I find that typing is a _lot_ harder when the keyboard is at normal desk level versus a more ergometric keyboard shelf height. Have you not found this to be a problem, or do you have some special coping technique?

Dave, I rarely use that computer for anything more than gaming, design and IMs. My laptop is my primary typing (emails, blogging, proposals, etc.) PC. I also have really good posture and a height raising chair so in a worst case I can compensate, but yeah, it would be a pain to type like that. Good observation.

[…] Bloggers are curious people, and some are even a bit nosy. That’s not all bad - afterall, we are just trying to get a big picture of who the person behind the words and code is. Last week Robyn from Practical Blogging and Vidcast on Gaming and Tech shared photos of her home office. It was a nice glimpse inside her world. It added even more of a human touch to her blog. In her post Robyn challenged others of us to share, too. […]

How fun to have a peek inside your house! My whole house is my messy office.

I used to do blog all over the house, but then I (not the kids) made a mess everywhere I went. Ha ha.

Ahh my home office looks similar. The only difference the gaming area is in my daughter’s room and my workout equipment is set up in the shed. I have the xbox and the xbox 360. She’s three years old. The only game she likes, at the moment, is Viva Pinata!

I wish this was still how my office looked, but since I moved to the Easy Bay Area (CA) to work for MyBlogLog/Yahoo, I’m in a purple cubicle LOL
